Analog Obsession VariMoon v5.0 is a free vari-mu compressor/limiter inspired by classic 600-style dynamics processing. It suits home producers who want characterful compression with practical control over signal drive, release behaviour and parallel blending.

The internally compensated input control offers ±18 dB of adjustment to drive the circuit and change the amount of compression. Despite their vintage-style labels, DC Threshold acts as a ratio control from 1:1 to 10:1, while AC Threshold sets the compression threshold across a 50 dB range. Attack is fixed at 10 ms, and six release positions provide different timing curves, including signal-dependent automatic settings.

A mix knob blends dry and compressed audio without needing a separate parallel channel. The 20–500 Hz sidechain high-pass filter reduces how strongly bass frequencies trigger compression; it does not remove bass from the audio itself. External sidechain support lets another signal control the compression, while ±18 dB output gain helps restore level.
