Refraction

Refraction by Sonora Cinematic is a creative piano instrument that goes far beyond a standard library. It starts with a beautifully recorded upright piano, captured through multiple microphone positions and a felt layer, then uses a spectral-shaping engine to capture and sustain the piano’s resonances. These are passed through a tuned filter bank that tracks your playing, letting you shape evolving pads, hybrid beds, and ambient textures from the piano’s own sound. The resonator sliders control harmonic volume and panning, while the Resonance Bloom (mod-wheel assignable) morphs the tone. Use it for detailed piano performances, cinematic sound design, or electronic production. It suits composers, producers, and sound designers seeking a fluid, morphing piano hybrid. The mixer includes close ribbons, condenser, back, room, and a vintage tape echo signal for added character.
