Altar

Altar is a free, open-source guitar amplifier plugin that punches far above its price tag. It offers two built-in amps: a glassy clean channel and a modern high-gain channel, plus a third slot for loading NAM (Neural Amp Modeler) profiles in A1 or A2 format. The modular DSP lets you drag amp, cab, and FX modules to reorder them, and right-click to bypass. A cab designer lets you create and share your own IRs. The FX suite includes multiple overdrive modes, circuit-bending, reverb, forward/reverse/glitch delays, chorus, and ringmod. Pitch shifting spans two octaves with semitone snapping and a sub-octave blend, all automatable. Mixing tools like Chug (low-frequency palm mute), Pick (upper-mid attack expansion), a Whistle filter, and Lofi effect speed up tone shaping. Pre and post channel strips process DI and final tone, while up to 8x oversampling, a tuner, click, and output limiter complete the package.
