P821 MDN Tape is a tape machine emulation plugin based on Marc Daniel Nelson’s personal Stephens 821 2-inch tape machine, which was used at the Producer’s Workshop on albums like The Wall, Aja, and Rumours. The plugin captures the open, large sonic character of that machine, which has minimal electronics and zero transformers, resulting in a massive soundstage without aggressive compression. It offers two tape formulas (900 and 456), speeds of 15 and 30 ips, a true tape-hiss generator, pre/post shelving EQ, and low/high bias controls. A VU meter with dual needles monitors input and output, while a tape delay circuit with feedback and filtering and a modulation section with wow & flutter (slow/fast) and tape flanging add further creative options. With zero sample delay when modulation is off (1.1 ms when on), it integrates smoothly into any workflow. This plugin is ideal for hobby music producers using FL Studio, Ableton, or Logic on Windows who want authentic tape coloration and behavior on individual tracks or full mixes.
