Analog Obsession Rare is a free Pultec-style EQ plugin for producers who want broad tonal shaping with analog-style coloration. It combines low-frequency boost and attenuation with high-frequency boost and a separate high-frequency attenuation section, making it useful for adjusting bass weight and upper-frequency balance on tracks or buses.
Its key distinction is a gain stage that can sit before or after the EQ. In the post-EQ position, frequency boosts influence how the stage saturates and compresses, particularly in the lows. Switching to pre-EQ lets you shape the tone after the gain stage, so EQ adjustments do not drive that stage harder. This gives you more control over the relationship between equalization and harmonic character.
Rare also includes an output level control, bypass, parameter readouts and optional 4x oversampling, enabled by clicking the Analog Obsession label. Version 6.1 refines the frequency knobs for finer adjustment. Available in VST and VST3 for Windows, plus AU on Mac, it suits hobby producers using FL Studio, Ableton Live or Logic Pro on a compatible system.
