Plugin Alliance Black Box Analog Design HG-Q is an analog-modeled EQ for producers who want frequency shaping with added harmonic character. Developed by Brainworx with Black Box Analog Design, it pairs tube-driven boosts with cleaner solid-state cuts, letting you add weight or presence while reducing unwanted frequencies.

The six-band layout provides three boost bands and three cut bands, with independent Q adjustment for focused or broader tonal changes. Each boost band includes tube saturation, so raising a frequency also changes its texture. The cut filters offer a lower-distortion approach to subtractive EQ.

Series and parallel operation provide different ways for the bands to interact, while the built-in spectrum analyzer helps you follow the resulting frequency curves. For stronger processing, 2X mode extends boosts and cuts to 16 dB and increases saturation intensity.

HG-Q suits hobby producers and mix engineers who enjoy shaping tone by ear rather than relying only on corrective EQ. Use it to explore fuller textures, emphasize quieter details, and reshape audio with a combination of clean filtering and tube coloration.
