Physical Audio Preparation 2 is a physical modelling instrument for producers who want unusual acoustic tones without relying on conventional sampled instruments. It simulates prepared strings and their interactions, making it useful for distinctive melodic parts, textured arrangements and experimental soundscapes.
Each voice combines two strings with a connecting rattle and a dynamic fret. The strings can also behave as bars, giving you another way to shape the underlying acoustic character. Choose a customisable pluck, bowing or side-chained audio to excite the model, then adjust its physical properties to explore different responses and timbres.
Rather than simply filtering an existing sound, Preparation 2 builds its tones from mathematical models of vibrating and colliding components. That approach suits hobby producers and sound designers interested in exploring the space between recognisable acoustic instruments and less familiar textures.
Version 2.1.0 is available here for 64-bit Windows in VST3 and AAX formats. For FL Studio and Ableton Live users on Windows, VST3 is the relevant format to check against your DAW’s compatibility requirements.
