Tone Empire TM700 is a tape saturation and compression effect for producers who want softer transients and analog-style coloration on individual tracks or full mixes. Its machine-learning model is based on a vintage American quarter-inch, two-track tape machine using SM9 tape, capturing the frequency response and distortion behavior of that recording setup.
The controls let you adjust saturation and compression together, making it straightforward to choose how much tape character to introduce. Two bias settings and tape speeds of 15 ips and 7.5 ips offer different tonal options. A dedicated two-track mode models differences between the left and right channels, along with interchannel crosstalk, to recreate the stereo behavior of the original machine.
TM700 was sampled at 192 kHz and upsamples internally to run its model at that rate. Supplied for Windows in VST3 and AAX formats, it suits hobby producers and mixing engineers working in compatible hosts such as FL Studio and Ableton Live.
