Hopkin Instrumentarium: Rumba Boxes

Soundiron Hopkin Instrumentarium: Rumba Boxes brings two handcrafted bass kalimbas by instrument inventor Bart Hopkin into your productions. Its acoustic palette pairs deep wooden resonance with bright tine attacks, rattling overtones, and expressive percussion. The Rumba Box offers plucked, picked, and percussive sounds, while Arby McCone combines bass kalimba and cajón characteristics with bells, shakers, metallic springs, and other attached sound-makers. Explore mallet strikes, taps, knocks, and slaps alongside pitched articulations, captured from two stereo microphone positions. For more atmospheric work, the library also includes custom FX presets, pads, drones, and textures developed from the original recordings. It suits producers and composers looking for organic bass parts, tactile rhythms, or unusual acoustic layers. Whether you’re building an understated groove or an experimental ambient cue, these instruments offer a distinctive alternative to familiar bass and percussion sounds.
