Wires

AudioThing Wires is a lo-fi echo effect modelled on a 1970s Soviet wire recorder, developed in collaboration with experimental musician Hainbach. Rather than recreating familiar tape warmth, it captures the distinctive texture of magnetic wire and a vacuum tube output stage, with behaviour that changes dynamically in response to your audio. Use it to give clean synths a weathered edge, send drums into eerie dub echoes, or add a faded, transmission-like atmosphere to ambient pieces and lo-fi beats. Variable echo timing takes the concept beyond the original hardware’s fixed-tempo setup, while the option to disable its high noise floor lets you retain the character without the constant hiss. Wires suits beatmakers, electronic producers and sound designers looking for an unusual delay with rough edges, movement and a distinctly haunted personality.
