CHOW Tape Model

CHOW Tape Model brings physics-based analog tape emulation to your production workflow. Originally modeled on the Sony TC-260 tape machine, this ChowDSP effect explores the character of magnetic tape through a physical model rather than treating it as a generic coloration effect. It suits producers and mixing engineers who want to experiment with tape-style character on individual tracks or across a mix, whether working on electronic music, recorded instruments, or hybrid productions. The project began at Stanford University’s CCRMA as part of Music 420, and its modeling approach was presented at the 2019 DAFx conference. Available in VST, VST3, AU, and LV2 formats, plus a standalone version, CHOW Tape Model combines a practical production tool with ongoing research into analog tape emulation.
