Sugar Bytes Nest is a rule-based modular MIDI sequencer for building patterns that evolve beyond a conventional piano roll. Connect modules inspired by electronic circuits and programming logic to generate and transform notes, rhythms, velocity and modulation. Shift registers, multiplexers, maths and if/else tools invite experimentation, while a writable sequencer and flexible arpeggiator offer more familiar starting points. Nest routes up to eight MIDI voices across four sound destinations, including hosted VST instruments, internal synths and drums, or external MIDI hardware. Its character comes from the musical relationships you patch together: interlocking beats, layered chords and shifting melodic sequences. Twelve patch scenes let you explore variations and develop song structures. It suits curious producers who enjoy generative composition, unusual rhythmic ideas and hands-on experimentation with their favourite sound sources.
