SSL X-Limit is a highly visual limiter plugin for tracks and buses, designed to increase loudness without clipping. Its all-in-one waveform display lets you set threshold and ceiling against the incoming signal, then dial in gain to catch peaks. Four preset styles—Transparent, Glue, Punch, and Auto—adjust the limiter’s ballistics for different material: use Punch to smash a drum bus, Transparent to tame vocals and acoustic guitars, or Glue on a sub-group for a unified sound. Auto adapts time constants based on transient content for set-and-forget operation. A standard-compliant True Peak algorithm with intelligent oversampling ensures inter-sample peaks are controlled, while Steering and Ducking meters show how limiting affects the stereo image, helping you minimise degradation via Channel Link. Workflow extras include Gain Lock, I/O difference auditioning, Gain Match, and a Mix control to blend back the original signal.
