The Synthesizer Expander Module is a free software emulation of Oberheim’s 1974 keyboardless mono synth module, the building block of some of the first polyphonic synthesizers. Cherry Audio faithfully recreates its dual oscillators and the star of the show: a 12 dB/oct state-variable filter with lowpass, bandpass, highpass, and notch modes, programmed by award-winning designer Mark Barton. A massive unison mode lets you thicken leads and basses, while the unique Phasor effect and tempo-synced echo add vintage character. With 100 presets covering basses, leads, and percussion, it suits hobby producers making electronic, synthwave, or classic rock. Complete MIDI control and DAW automation make it easy to integrate into any workflow, and the focus zoom feature keeps the interface comfortable. Highly optimized DSP ensures smooth performance, and it’s completely free.
