4040 Retro Limiter HD v7

McDSP 4040 Retro Limiter HD v7 pairs look-ahead brick-wall limiting with vintage-inspired character, helping control peaks without making every track feel aggressively squeezed. Its original algorithms aim for a transparent yet subtly coloured sound, while analogue saturation modelling adds warmth. McDSP’s Anti-Clip Output Stage Topology is designed to prevent digital clipping at the output and give distortion a smoother edge. Use it to tame dynamic material, add density to a mix, or bring a little retro flavour to final level control. With up to 36 dB of signal gain, mono and stereo versions, and double-precision processing, it suits producers who want practical limiting with personality rather than a recreation of a particular hardware unit. This HD edition is intended for AAX DSP users; choose it specifically for that workflow rather than assuming compatibility with a standard native plugin setup.
