ACE by u-he is a semi-modular synth plugin that pairs familiar subtractive synthesis with open-ended cable patching. Its default signal routing lets you start playing without building a patch from scratch, while flexible connections invite deeper experiments. Two oscillators, two multimode filters, envelopes and audio-rate LFOs provide the building blocks for basses, leads, evolving textures and unusual FM sounds. Push the filters into self-oscillation, swap oscillator and LFO roles, or explore ring modulation for more adventurous tones. Up to eight-voice unison adds weight, while onboard chorus, delay and tone controls help shape the result. A clear module layout makes ACE approachable for producers learning modular synthesis, yet its extensive routing options give experienced sound designers plenty to explore. Scala microtuning support and a custom waveform mapping generator add further scope for distinctive patches.
