Al Schmitt

Al Schmitt by Leapwing Audio is a signature effects plugin that brings the legendary engineer’s approach to tone and space into a streamlined mixing workflow. Six dedicated profiles cover vocals, piano, bass, brass, strings and the mix bus, with controls and sonic characteristics tailored to each application. Rather than presenting a complex rack of processors, it combines ideas drawn from Schmitt’s use of harmonics, compression, EQ and reverb in a focused interface. Profile-specific harmonic distortion adds subtle colour, while carefully voiced reverbs create depth with three tuned reflection patterns to choose from. Use it to shape a lead vocal, enhance acoustic instruments or bring Schmitt-inspired character to a full mix. With minimal controls arranged on one screen, it suits home producers and experienced mixers who prefer quick, musical adjustments over lengthy parameter tweaking.
