AlyJamesLab OB-XTRM v2.0 is a Windows synthesizer that models the voice architecture and circuit character of classic OB-series analog synths. It suits producers looking for brass stabs, broad pads, cutting leads and gritty bass, with controls for shaping both the tone and the differences between individual voices.
Choose eight-voice polyphony, eight-voice mono unison or a single monophonic voice. FAT mode adds polyphonic unison for denser layers. Oscillator options include saw, pulse and triangle waves, plus a combined saw-and-pulse shape whose harmonic character changes with pulse width.
The filter section pairs an OB-X-inspired two-pole design with a four-pole model based on the CEM3320 implementation. Two-pole mode also offers bandpass output. The Xtreme control adjusts modeled OTA distortion, while separate pre- and post-stage bypass options let you refine where that coloration enters the sound.
Voice-card variation controls introduce tuning and envelope differences for less uniform results. Version 2 rebuilds the engine rather than simply updating version 1, while retaining legacy envelope and filter behavior. The described 2.0 pre-release includes the earlier preset bank and extras, but has LFO2 disabled.
