Analog Obsession AMPER v2.0 is a free guitar amp simulation focused on mid- to high-gain metal tones. It is designed for guitarists and home producers who want to shape distorted guitar sounds inside their DAW, with separate control over two drive stages.

Instead of running in parallel, AMPER’s gain sections feed into one another. Volume 1 adjusts a tube-style distortion stage ahead of the main preamp, while Volume 2 controls the preamp gain. This arrangement works much like placing a drive pedal before an amplifier, although the first stage is modeled on tube amp distortion. You can use it to push the main preamp harder or balance the distortion between stages.

A preamp tone-shaping section helps reduce troublesome frequencies before they reach the gain circuitry, alongside amp-style tone controls for further adjustment. Version 2.0 updates the DSP and circuit design and adds knob value readouts.

For Windows users, AMPER is available in VST and VST3 formats, making it suitable for compatible hosts such as FL Studio and Ableton Live. The listed Windows versions are 7, 8 and 10.
