Analog Obsession PreBOX is a free preamp and distortion effect for producers who want to explore different gain-driven tones without a complicated control panel. Its 11 selectable preamp models offer a range of starting points for shaping individual tracks. It suits hobby producers looking to add coloration to recordings or experiment with distortion on software instruments.

The input control provides up to 24 dB of boost or cut with automatic gain compensation, while a separate output control offers the same adjustment range. Filtering lets you shape the sound further: the high-pass selector includes flat, 80 Hz, 300 Hz, and a combined 300+80 Hz setting. The low-pass selector switches between flat and 3 kHz.

Clicking the Analog Obsession label enables 4x oversampling. The updated interface includes knob value readouts and Retina/HiDPI support, alongside DSP refinements and reduced CPU usage. On Windows, PreBOX is available in VST and VST3 formats for compatible hosts such as FL Studio and Ableton Live; the Mac version also includes AU for Logic Pro.
