Cache is a performance effect built specifically for the KORG NTS-3 kaoss pad, and it turns that little XY controller into a live audio-mangling instrument. Its engine continuously records incoming audio into a buffer of up to four seconds of 32-bit stereo, then lets you fire off buffer-based effects from four zones on the pad. You choose from twelve algorithms per zone — Loop, Repeat, Ping-Pong, Robotize, Stretch, Stop, Reverse, Rewind, Scratch, Bend, Roll Up and Roll Down — and can run up to four of them simultaneously with tempo sync. Spline interpolation and multiple fade envelopes keep transitions silent and seamless, so effect switching never clicks. It suits electronic producers, DJs and sound designers who want glitchy stutters, tape-style stops and scratches in real time, and it works equally well for hands-on performance and experimental texture work in the studio.
