Cassette Keys.01 for Kontakt

Cassette Keys.01 for Kontakt by THEPHONOLOOP turns physical modelling and FM synthesis into a playable instrument with worn cassette character. Recorded through an old, unstable cassette recorder, its sampled tones suit vintage-inspired melodies, textured chords and offbeat keyboard parts. Four velocity layers across a C0–E6 range provide dynamic response, while simulated round-robin adds variation to repeated notes and fast ostinatos. Each note has been de-noised to prevent hiss building up in chords; a separate noise slider lets you blend that texture back in independently. The single-page interface keeps sound shaping straightforward, with reverse playback, mono mode and an adjustable sample start mapped to the mod wheel. With 30 presets included, it suits hobby producers and sound designers looking for cassette-coloured keys that can move from familiar vintage textures into stranger territory.
