Celemony Capstan is audio restoration software for correcting wow, flutter and gradual speed drift in recorded music. It is aimed at producers, archivists and anyone restoring transfers from tape, cassette, vinyl, shellac or wax recordings. Rather than working as a conventional VST effect inside a DAW, Capstan provides a dedicated environment for repairing unstable playback speed.
Its analysis uses Celemony’s DNA Direct Note Access technology to identify notes and track unwanted fluctuations within the audio itself. You can adjust the amount of correction precisely and draw the correction curve by hand when detailed intervention is needed. Processing uses high-quality varispeed rather than conventional pitch-shifting or time-stretching methods.
Capstan supports common audio file formats and works with mono, stereo, multichannel and multitrack material. It can also process recordings that have passed through several tape copies or been digitized at low resolution, without requiring the original playback equipment.
This listing covers the 64-bit Windows edition. The stated requirements are Windows 7, 8.1 or 10, at least 4 GB of RAM, and an iLok 2 or 3.
