Empirical Labs EL8 Distressor Compressor

The Empirical Labs EL8 Distressor is a plug-in emulation of the modern studio compressor that picks up where classic FET and optical units leave off. Built by Universal Audio, it delivers the original’s ultra-fast attack and colorful character, with eight compression ratios from gentle 1:1 warming to aggressive Nuke. Dist 2 and Dist 3 modes add even- and odd-order harmonic distortion, from subtle thickening to saturated tape-like grit. Sidechain controls with Band Emphasis tame low-end pumping and harsh peaks, making it ideal for drum busses and vocals. Plug-in-only features include Dry/Wet for parallel compression and adjustable Headroom. Use it to shape guitars, drums, vocals, bass, synths, and room mics, or to add excitement to a full mix. It suits hobby producers and mixing engineers who want versatile, creative dynamics in FL Studio, Ableton, or Logic.
