Empirical Labs Lil FrEQ

Softube Empirical Labs Lil FrEQ brings warm, punchy analogue EQ character and flexible corrective processing into a single plugin. Modelled on the hardware with input from Dave Derr, it combines eight processing sections to handle tonal shaping and high-frequency control without a long chain of separate effects. Each section has its own bypass switch, making it easy to compare adjustments as you refine a mix. The DS section uses tunable filters and level-independent high-frequency detection to tame vocal sibilance and sharp transients. It can also work as a soft-knee high-frequency limiter or deliver tape-like smoothing. Lil FrEQ suits home producers and experienced mixers who want characterful equalization alongside practical problem-solving tools, particularly for vocals that need a warmer balance and better control of harsh top-end energy.
