F9 Audio Claptrap is a free drum sample pack capturing the distinctive clap sound of the Simmons Claptrap hardware. Rather than a VST plugin, it provides WAV samples and sampler patches for building drum parts in your DAW. Its thick, vintage character suits producers making funk, R&B, club tracks, or electronic music with an ’80s influence.
The original unit combined an 8-bit EPROM sample with an analog noise generator, while its Humanise function introduced small changes between hits. This collection includes 100 WAV files: ten variations for each of ten Claptrap settings. The supplied round-robin sample sets offer alternatives to repeating exactly the same clap throughout a pattern.
Sampler options include Logic Pro X EXS24 patches, Ableton Live 9 and 10 racks for Standard or Suite, Studio One Presence XT, Reason NNXT, Kontakt, Battery, MPC, and Maschine. Kontakt patches require the full version; they are not intended for the free Kontakt Player. FL Studio users can work with the WAV files directly, making this a useful option for hobby producers seeking hardware-sourced clap sounds without buying vintage equipment.
