Gowans Audio Gowans73 is a vintage-style preamp and EQ effect for producers who want a fuller, more coloured sound rather than purely transparent tone shaping. Its model is based on a hardware unit owned by the developer, drawing on a preamp design associated with recordings across rock, rap, hip-hop and classical music.
The plugin recreates the original unit’s EQ bands and frequency choices, then adds another midrange band for extra flexibility. This additional band is fully sweepable and uses a higher Q, giving you a more focused way to adjust the mids alongside the original EQ controls. That makes it useful for hobby producers exploring characterful equalisation on individual tracks or adding tonal weight within a mix.
Gowans73 v1.0.0 is available for Windows in VST3 and AAX formats. It suits compatible hosts such as FL Studio and Ableton Live, with support for 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 kHz sample rates. It is a practical choice if you prefer vintage-inspired preamp character paired with flexible midrange shaping.
