Inear Display Bref is a free percussion synthesizer for producers who want to build electronic drum parts from short, metallic tones. Based on a modified version of the Ephemere synthesis engine, it pairs two sound generators with a simple randomization workflow. It suits beat makers and sound designers looking for synthetic hits rather than sampled acoustic drums.
Bref creates two sounds when it opens. Send a MIDI note to play them at a fixed pitch, making it straightforward to use in drum racks. The MORPH knob blends the two engines, and automating it lets the timbre shift throughout a pattern. Separate A and B buttons generate fresh sounds for each engine, while the dice control randomizes both engines and the morph setting together.
MIDI velocity response, four-voice polyphony and output level control help shape percussion parts. A built-in oscilloscope displays the waveform, and the interface is resizable. There is no preset browser; your DAW project stores the plugin state. Bref supports VST3 on 64-bit Windows 10 or later, with VST3 and Audio Unit versions also available for macOS 10.13 or later.
