Malfunction is a circuit-bent filter effect that deliberately corrupts a low-pass filter model, producing a rough, screaming distortion. Even the simplest sounds transform into complex, expressive and unpredictable textures packed with character. It excels on synths, drums and loops where you want aggressive, experimental coloration, and the built-in input gate envelope prevents static noise from constantly exciting the filter. Two-times oversampling removes unwanted harshness from high-frequency aliasing, keeping the chaos usable. Designed for KORG hardware including prologue, minilogue xd, NTS-1, NTS-1 mkII, NTS-3 and microKORG2, it uses studio-grade DSP calibrated for each device, with individually chosen parameter mapping for a natural feel, lag filters for smooth noise-free adjustment, and optimization for stable performance. It suits hobby producers and sound designers seeking unpredictable, characterful distortion rather than clean filtering.
