Kaivo is a software instrument that uses physical modeling to create both realistic and abstract sounds. It employs finite difference time domain (FDTD) models, allowing you to interact with the internal vibrations of the instrument at any point. This results in detailed nuances like bridge rattles on a gut string model. Each time a model is triggered, it produces a slightly different sound due to initial conditions, adding lifelike variation that would be tedious with sampling. Kaivo features eight tuned resonators, including strings, chimes, and springs, each with unique responses. There are four instrument bodies: two wooden models, a metal plate, and a frame drum, all true 2D models. Spatial sounds are possible with independent panning on grains, resonator, and body. The granulator feeds the models from a 2D map of sound with up to four channels. The body is a 2D vibrating model with left and right pickups, creating a spatialized mix. Ideal for hobby music producers exploring realistic and abstract textures in filmic or experimental music. Works on Windows in VST-compatible DAWs.
