Modus by Physical Audio is a physical modelling instrument that builds tones from colliding strings, plates, springs and rattles. Three distinct models let you explore connected strings with nonlinear springs or rattles, strings driving a resonant plate for six octaves of mono or duophonic play, and driven plates excited by polyphonic oscillators, percussive hits or sidechained audio. Every physical parameter—decay, mass, harmonic content and tuning—can be adjusted in real time, while two LFOs and a multi-effects section with EQ, filter, drive, delay and reverb shape the result. The sound ranges from plucked and bowed textures to metallic resonances and percussive impacts, making it ideal for ambient, cinematic and experimental music. It suits producers who want organic, evolving tones beyond standard synthesis, and supports MPE and MTS-ESP microtuning for expressive performance.
