K1v is a free, accurate emulation of the Kawai K1, a classic 1988 digital rompler. It recreates the original’s 8-bit synthesis engine, with four sources per voice and 256 waveforms (204 additive and 52 PCM) assignable to each source. You get DADSR envelopes, eight velocity curves, coarse and fine tuning, ring modulation between sources 1&2 and 3&4, plus an LFO with triangle, square, saw, and random shapes. All 768 presets from the factory bank and ROM cards are included, searchable, and fully editable. The plugin can import and export SysEx presets and banks (.syx and .mid), so it doubles as an editor for the hardware. MIDI implementation is thorough: program changes with bank select, hold pedal, volume, pan, velocity, aftertouch, modulation wheel, pitch bend, and SysEx handling that responds to block data and device ID requests. A joystick provides real-time control, and the resizable interface supports full automation. With 32-bit and 64-bit Windows builds, K1v suits hobby producers after the gritty character of late-80s digital sounds in FL Studio, Ableton, or Logic.
