Phuturetone GR-8 is a free virtual analog synthesizer for hobby producers who want to build basses, leads, chords and arpeggiated patterns. Its eight-voice engine offers mono, unison, chord and polyphonic modes, with glide, legato, detuning and stereo spread to shape how notes play together.
Two oscillators provide a selection of classic waveforms and noise, while FM cross-modulation, pulse-width modulation and oscillator sync expand the tonal range. A non-resonant high-pass filter works alongside a resonant low-pass section with selectable 12, 18 or 24 dB-per-octave slopes. An LFO, two envelopes, pitch bend and mod wheel supply modulation options.
For rhythmic parts, the arpeggiator includes five playback modes across a four-octave range. Built-in EQ, distortion, phaser, chorus/flanger, delay and reverb let you develop sounds without adding separate effects. There are also 88 presets for exploring the synth.
GR-8 is available as VST3 for Windows and AudioUnit for Mac. MIDI assignments are stored per preset, so save changes before switching sounds. A saved copy of the Initial preset can serve as a reusable MIDI-mapping template.
