Portatron

Portatron by Robotic Bean is a four-track cassette tape synthesizer for turning samples and recorded audio into textured loops, drones, and playable instruments. Run loops alongside your DAW, restart them at one-, two-, or four-bar intervals, or play them monophonically from a MIDI keyboard. Shape the cassette character with noise, dropouts, wobble, tape speed, and start/stop lag, then add saturation with Drive and choose Normal or Chrome tape. Built-in EQ, delay, and reverb help blend the four tracks into a cohesive sound. Version 2 adds direct recording from your DAW onto up to four tape tracks, depending on host support, plus MIDI Learn and a Portapack library manager. Hundreds of included samples offer starting points for lo-fi beats, ambient beds, and experimental soundscapes. It suits producers who want hands-on tape manipulation without maintaining a cassette machine.
