Psycle is a free, open-source music creation program built around a classic tracker interface, where you enter notes and commands into a text grid of patterns and then arrange those patterns into a song sequence. It’s aimed at hobby producers who enjoy pattern-based composition and want a lightweight, modular environment. You can generate sound three ways: Psycle’s native plugin format, VST1 and VST2 plugins, or sampled .wav and .iff files loaded into its internal stereo sampler, which handles any sample rate at 8, 16, or 24-bit, mono or stereo. The pattern editor offers 64 tracks and up to 1024 lines, with 256 sequence positions, and a routing view lets you wire virtual machines together to apply effects. Over 70 native generator and effect plugins are included, and MIDI input, configurable keyboard layouts, and themes are supported. It runs on Windows (x64/x32) and works well alongside FL Studio, Ableton, or Logic when you want a tracker-style workflow or need to import legacy module files such as .xm, .s3m, .it, and .mod.
