Puremagnetik Rust is an audio effect that pairs metallic resonance with the uneven character of aging analog tape. It processes sound through two sections in series: Iron Oxide for the resonator treatment, followed by Chromium for tape-style wear. The design combines second-order resonant filters with a physically modeled “ball-within-the-box” space and analog aging processing drawn from Puremagnetik’s Driftmaker and Verv.
For hobby producers exploring lo-fi textures, sound design, or deliberately weathered tones, Rust offers a way to move beyond a clean recording. It can introduce squeaky metallic coloration, add pitch movement through wow and flutter, or push material toward a more heavily deteriorated sound. That makes it worth exploring on parts that need an aged or unusual character rather than transparent processing.
Included presets provide starting points, but the METAL control is central to tailoring the resonator response to your incoming audio. Adjust it to suit each source, then explore how the two processing stages reshape the result.
