SPARTA v1.5.1 is a free, open-source VST plugin suite for building, monitoring and analysing spatial audio. Developed primarily by Aalto University’s Acoustics Lab, it gives producers, sound designers and audio researchers tools for working with Ambisonics, binaural headphone playback and multi-speaker setups.
The collection includes Ambisonic encoding, panning and decoding up to seventh order, plus a compressor designed for Ambisonic signals. Its binaural tools can load SOFA files and receive OSC head-tracking messages, while the loudspeaker decoder supports configurable layouts with up to 64 speaker directions. These options make it useful for experimenting with immersive mixes and checking how spatial material translates to headphones or speaker arrays.
Beyond routing and playback, SPARTA provides microphone-array encoding, beamforming, sound-field visualisation, multichannel decorrelation and convolution. A shoebox room simulator models multiple sources and Ambisonic receivers using the image-source method. The installer also bundles COMPASS, HO-DirAC, CroPaC and HO-SIRR tools for additional spatial processing and room impulse response rendering.
For Windows users, this x64 VST package is best suited to compatible hosts with the multichannel routing needed for the chosen workflow.
