Surge XT is a free hybrid synthesizer for producers who want to explore subtractive synthesis, wavetables, FM and physical-style string sounds in one instrument. It suits hobby musicians building tracks in FL Studio or Ableton Live, whether they prefer browsing presets or designing patches from scratch.

Each patch has two independent synthesis scenes for layered sounds or keyboard splits, with three oscillators per scene. Twelve oscillator algorithms cover everything from pulse and saw waves to noise, audio input and plucked or bowed string textures. Many algorithms also support up to 16-voice unison for thicker tones.

The factory library includes 2,779 patches and 614 wavetables, with text search and favorites to keep browsing practical. Two filter units offer multiple routing configurations, while 43 waveshaping options provide further tonal control.

For evolving pads, rhythmic sequences and animated leads, Surge XT supplies per-voice and global LFOs, step sequencing, multi-segment envelopes and flexible modulation routing. Lua-based formula modulation gives more technical users another way to create custom movement.
