AudioThing’s SX1000 resurrects the JEN SX1000 Synthetone, a 1978 Italian analog mono synth that made hands-on synthesis affordable. This emulation goes far beyond the original: the M110 chip is meticulously modeled, then expanded with polyphonic mode, a sub-oscillator reaching down three octaves, and legato controls. The 24dB/octave low-pass filter self-oscillates with a distinct organic character, while two ADSR envelopes and an LFO handle modulation. An arpeggiator borrowed from a classic polysynth and four effects with flexible routing add modern versatility. The noise generator faithfully reproduces the MM5837 chip’s white and pink noise, though it can be disabled to avoid its looping artifacts. Whether you’re crafting warm basses, singing leads, or experimental textures, the SX1000 delivers vintage Italian flavor with contemporary flexibility. It suits hobby producers and retro enthusiasts looking for an affordable, characterful analog synth emulation in FL Studio, Ableton, or Logic.
