TAPED: Cassette Kalimba

TAPED: Cassette Kalimba by KLANG pairs the delicate pluck of a kalimba with the woody strike of a xylophone, captured through an old cassette radio’s recording function. The result is a warm, percussive instrument where metallic and wooden tones meet the imperfect character of tape. An added decay layer rounds out the sound, giving the short strikes a softer, lingering finish. Rather than chasing pristine detail, Cassette Kalimba leans into nostalgic texture and gently worn edges. It’s a natural fit for lo-fi beats, intimate melodies, ambient sketches and understated instrumental arrangements. For hobby producers and composers who want percussion with pitch and personality, it offers an alternative to clean keys and polished mallet sounds.
