ToneLib BassDrive is a free overdrive effect for bass guitar and low-tuned electric guitar. Modelled on a familiar drive pedal, it focuses on distortion in the lower frequency range, making it useful for bassists, guitarists and producers working with extended-range instruments or heavier string gauges.
The drive can move from gentle coloration to a sharper, more aggressive sound, depending on the settings. That gives it a place in heavy guitar productions as well as tracks that need a less intense layer of grit. Although bass and low-tuned guitars are its main focus, you can also try it on other sources when a driven low-frequency character fits the arrangement.
A real-time frequency spectrum display shows the input and output signals, helping you see how parameter adjustments reshape the sound. BassDrive is available in 64-bit VST, VST3 and AU formats, with a standalone version for playing without opening a DAW. Windows users can use the VST versions in compatible hosts such as FL Studio and Ableton Live; AU support is for compatible macOS hosts.
