Toontrack Fields of Rock SDX is a drum sound library for producers building rock tracks, from dry, tightly controlled grooves to big, room-heavy performances. Its seven sampled kits cover sounds associated with rock from the 1970s onward, with additional cymbals, percussion and sampled everyday objects for more unusual rhythmic layers.
Recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales, the sessions paired producer and engineer Tom Dalgety with drummer Mat Hector. Vintage microphones, studio outboard equipment and 14 channels of hardware tape emulation helped shape the recordings, adding tape-style warmth and saturation.
The content is organized into three drum environments plus a separate percussion library. The Live Room offers a more reflective, energetic sound, while the Dry Room provides a dampened alternative. The Stone Room adds another distinct natural ambience. Multiple ambience and character microphones provide further tonal options.
Rock-focused presets by Dalgety and MIDI grooves tailored to each kit offer useful starting points for songwriting. Dedicated percussion grooves accompany instruments including congas, bongos, shakers and rototoms. This SDX expansion suits hobby producers who want varied acoustic rock drum sounds rather than a standalone synthesizer or effect.
