Vintage Strings by Big Fish Audio brings the character of 1960s and 1970s soul, R&B, and funk violin sections to Kontakt 5. Rather than aiming for polished orchestral perfection, this virtual instrument preserves the expressive playing and subtle imperfections that give classic string arrangements their personality. A six-piece violin ensemble was recorded with vintage condenser and ribbon microphones through an SSL console in a smaller, less reverberant studio. Microphone placement and seating drew on historic Motown and Philly Soul session notes. Choose from two-, six-, and twelve-violin patches to shape your arrangement, from compact harmonies that leave room in a busy mix to fuller section textures. The two-violin patches suit intimate backing parts, while six-violin patches work well for unison melodies and layered harmonies. It’s a practical choice for producers and arrangers seeking soulful, period-inspired strings rather than concert-hall grandeur.
