Virtual Audio Cable v4.70 is a Windows audio routing utility that moves sound between applications without physical cables or an audio interface. Rather than loading as a VST effect, it installs virtual audio devices: one program sends audio to a cable’s output, while another receives it through the corresponding input.
For hobby producers, it offers a practical way to record software instruments, capture audio from programs without WAV export, or feed a live stream into another application for processing or encoding. Multiple programs can send audio to the same cable for mixing, and multiple receiving applications can access that cable’s audio simultaneously.
VAC supports up to 256 virtual cables and fixed-point PCM audio at sample rates from 1 kHz to 384 kHz, with 8–32-bit resolution and up to eight channels. Digital routing avoids an analog conversion stage. ASIO-based workflows require a wrapper such as ASIO4ALL, making it an option for compatible Windows production setups. It works in local sessions only, not through Remote Desktop, and does not support floating-point audio formats.
