Virtual MIDI Piano Keyboard v0.8.10 is a Windows MIDI utility for playing and viewing notes without a physical keyboard controller. It generates and receives MIDI messages rather than producing audio, so you need a connected software or hardware synthesizer to hear your performance. Despite its piano-style interface, it is not a piano sound library or a VST instrument.

Use your computer keyboard or mouse to trigger notes, or route MIDI from another instrument or MIDI file player into VMPK to see incoming notes displayed on screen. This makes it useful for hobby producers who want to sketch musical ideas, check MIDI activity, or work without a dedicated controller.

Keyboard assignments can be edited within the application and saved in XML files, with mappings supplied for German, French and Spanish layouts. VMPK also sends program changes and MIDI controller messages to connected synths, and supports .INS instrument definitions for different devices and standards.

For Windows production setups, it serves as a companion MIDI tool rather than an audio-generating plugin. DAW use depends on configuring the appropriate MIDI connections.
