WaveArts Tube Saturator Vintage is a free tube saturation effect for producers who want to add warmth, tonal colour or audible distortion to recordings. Reissued from the original Tube Saturator, it models a dual-triode preamp using detailed circuit simulation rather than a simplified approximation.
The signal path places a Baxandall-style three-band EQ before two 12AX7 triode stages, letting you shape the tone before it reaches the saturation circuit. Turn up Drive to push the input harder while the output gain is reduced, making distortion adjustments more manageable. For extra gain and saturation, the FAT switch changes the bias of the first preamp stage.
Use it for gentle analogue-style colouring, more pronounced preamp grit or saturating peak limiting. It suits hobby producers who enjoy exploring tube character and can spare the processing power. The detailed modelling is demanding on the CPU, so a fast computer is recommended. Compared with Tube Saturator 2, Vintage is the less efficient option, but preserves the original model for listeners who prefer its sound.
