FC-2 TURBO is a free distortion plugin modelled from a Boss DS-2-style circuit, with the clipping diodes placed inside the op-amp feedback loop rather than across the output. Instead of hard-clipping your signal, the diodes reduce the amplifier’s gain as level rises, so the sound compresses and blooms while responding to your playing dynamics. The circuit equation is solved per sample with 4x oversampling. Mode I is a mid-forward straight voice that works well into an already-driven amp; Mode II is a distinct turbo voice with a different input network and filter, measured at 12.9 dB more 1 kHz-to-5 kHz tilt for a nasal, cutting character that sits forward in dense mixes. Controls are DIST, TONE, LEVEL and MODE, with named presets stored as plain XML. It suits nineties alternative, grunge, punk, stoner rock and noise rock guitar, and also works on bass, drum buses and synth leads. Available as a standalone VST3 for Windows.
