American FET is a 500-series style FET compressor plugin for Windows, available as VST3 and AAX. It models a discrete JFET gain stage, op-amps, and an output transformer, with four modes: C (2:1 compression), L (20:1 limiting), OFF (transformer and amp colour without compression), and BYP (true bypass). The single CEILING control sets compression and automatically compensates output level, while four release times range from 0.1s to 2.5s. A D-S sidechain filter tilts the detector toward the top end, useful for de-essing vocals, and also lifts deep bass. It includes external sidechain, stereo-link and mono modes, dry/wet mix for parallel processing, and a detector that reconstructs peaks at around 380kHz for accurate transient capture.
