Analog Obsession STEQ v4.0 is a free channel strip plugin that brings console-style EQ, optical compression and preamp coloration into a straightforward interface. Inspired by a compact mixing console from an established tape-machine manufacturer, it suits hobby producers who want simple tonal shaping without a screen full of controls.
The EQ pairs an adjustable mid band, covering 150 Hz to 7 kHz, with fixed shelving bands at 80 Hz and 10 kHz. This layout lets you reshape the midrange while adjusting low-end weight and top-end brightness. A single-knob optical compressor adds an equally direct way to control dynamics.
The EQ and compressor have separate bypass switches, while the preamp remains active even with both sections disabled. That makes STEQ useful as a line-preamp coloration effect as well as a compact processing strip.
For Windows users, version 4.0 supports Windows 10–11 in VST3 and AAX formats, with an OpenGL-capable graphics card required. The interface scales from 50% to 200%, and saving a DAW default preset can preserve your preferred size for new instances.
