Cardinal is a free, open-source modular synthesizer plugin that brings a self-contained virtual Eurorack environment into your DAW. Based on VCV Rack but designed as a plugin, it bundles a large collection of third-party modules and internal utilities into a single binary, so you can build patches without external dependencies. It works as VST2, VST3, and AU on Windows and macOS, with three variants: Main (8 audio I/O and CV ports, not available in AU/VST2), Synth (instrument with 2 outputs), and FX (effect with 2 ins/outs). All variants support MIDI. The included modules cover oscillators, filters, sequencers, effects, and more from brands like Audible Instruments, Befaco, Bogaudio, and many others. Cardinal is ideal for hobby producers using FL Studio, Ableton Live, or Logic who want to experiment with modular synthesis, create complex generative patches, or add unique textures to their tracks. It does not load external Rack modules or connect to the official store, keeping everything self-contained. The VST3 version is still experimental. Available for Windows and macOS (including ARM).
